A bit of a double edged sword there. You’ve explained how good this lock is to the general public (with all of its security features); but then you make, what appears to be an easy open. I think the general public should be made aware that you are a super talented lock picker and that your average burglar or lock picker would struggle to get this open and it is a testament to your skills that you made this look easy.

Guys, multi locks aren't practical for me because where the hell do I get a key made, and frankly this is too much security. I'd lock myself out, and not be able to get in without calling a locksmith and I don't know of any in my city who can pick one of these. I've asked. This is why I have insurance. Someone breaks in, I call the cops, then my insurance company then get things fixed and replaced. And I didn't throw my back out trying to get in, or fell off a ladder trying to crawl through a window, or had to explain to a policeman what I was doing.

The introduction sounds just like the ALC galaxy video. :)
As far as security. If someone has the knowledge and bought a lock he could make a master key.
This is in my opinion a flaw in the design of this system.

It's hard to make high security keys but far from impossible.
         @MichaelMaynard @MichaelMaynard 29.12.2018->Mate. I hadn't even thought of this. But if you bought - say - a dozen of these things (definitely a non infinite number in any case) and could measure the keys accurately enough to determine their bittings...you'd definitely be able to find the commonalities to be able to make a master. That said...I have absolutely no clue how you'd cut a key with the necessary precision without owning a MTL key mill and I think that picking is probably actually easier than this attack. But that's a truly excellent thought.

It's clever but it seems leaving your door constantly open for anyone with the keys from the power company is still concerning. Regardless of how restricted they are, it's still a person 'guarding' it when not safe within the power company walls.
If somehow this power company version of the key could be activated by another special key for just the days required to do the job and then deactivated again with another key or even the same key, it could be even safer. I don't think at this price a couple extra keys is an issue but to do that purely mechanically would be a fascinating mechanism.
I'm guessing that system doesn't exist but do you think it's possible?

Nice picking. Certainly far beyond my skill level. If I'm not mistaken, it makes sense the inner drivers will have to be set separately with the solid key pins. The first time you set a pin with a solid driver the core is only turned far enough to hold the outer driver at the shear line. Then when the key pin falls back down the inner driver will fall back down as well. Then when you get the deeper false set the inner pins will bind at the shear line at which point the core is turned far enough to hold them at the shear line when they're picked again. Thanks for the video. Cheers!
         @MichaelMaynard @MichaelMaynard 07.12.2017->Yeah that's pretty much how I see it as well.

Hi Michael, great review and picking, not sure I would like the Power Co. entering my house while I'm not there. Most meters are external, but of course some older places have them inside. If you are not home they can estimate your power usage, and correct it up or down at a later date. My concern is lost or stolen Power Co. Master Keys. I have lost count the amount of Restricted Master Key systems we have had to rekey due to lost or stolen Master keys - it happens. It would be a nightmare to rekey hundreds of houses, if and when this happens. The Power Co. aside, locks such as the MT5+ rarely find themselves installed in private houses, they are almost always only used in large Master key systems, as house holders wont pay the high cost of these cylinders - " they'll just break a window or kick the door in, and we are insured " is the usual comment, and I hear that. We had a run on high security locks when the bump key became widely outed, that has died completely. Until high security - read better cylinders - become the norm, and are priced accordingly, they will not become mainstream. The only people that are concerned about better cylinder security are the Locksport guys and Locksmiths ( more profit ) Lockwood have increased the security with sharp shallow cut spools in all their standard lock cylinders, which will reduce the chance of raking, bumping, and the pick gun, and for that I applaud them. Regards, Brian.
         @MichaelMaynard @MichaelMaynard 28.11.2017->Thanks Brian, glad you enjoyed that one. I agree entirely about granting them access indoors but I think for front yards / outside cabinets / common areas of apartment buildings and the like it's a great solution. As far as lost and stolen master keys goes, that must be everyone's recurring nightmare and I'm guessing that anyone issued with one has instant dismissal written into their contract if they come back at the end of the day without it. Not much else they can do really; the power industry have to be seen as doing *something*, and the MTL is a better choice than most.

Issue with your suggestion is there are very few ML dealers in Australia with none in the city I live in.So much easier to just install a BiLock
         @MichaelMaynard @MichaelMaynard 27.11.2017->Sorry, I don't follow you, what suggestion?

Mr Maynard your sure becoming one of my favourite channels. That was explain to a T. I have one. Euro style. I get it on vid. When I do the Alpha pin I go straight to the right side with dimple pick. Once set I start at the back and work to the front . You think they put spools Drivers' in for the price you pay. But loved your MT5 plus journey bud. Excellent. Regards Jon..
         @MichaelMaynard @MichaelMaynard 27.11.2017->Thanks bro. They're great locks aren't they? I just love to pick them.

Nice job Michael. I'm not in Victoria but have seen these advertised. My local locksmith did not offer these but I'm sure others should. Im an ex sparky, the only meterbox locks here were the Lockwood C4 keyway. Some other commercial electrical switchboards were crappy little locks, maybe wafers with a little L&F key. I have master keys somewhere. I have seen on the pad mount HV transformer on my boundary that it has Abloy disc detainer of some sort. They used to have the old Lockwood Rim cylinders on them. I closely debated the MT5+ but decided on Bi-Lock. Victoria's domestic meterboxes atleast are different to ours and they take Rim's ours don't. I don't lock mine but probably should to see what they now offer here. Good info on the vid, I always learn something new watching your video's. I don't think I'd be game in gutting one though, bit too fiddly for my eyesight. Maybe you can send me some new spectacles!????
         @phri6173 @phri6173 14.04.2018->Don'z Lockz they just recently updated the power industry locks country wide well when we got this so atleast a year ago , and most domestic meter boxes are locked by the padlock version of this .???
